Developing literacy has always been the focus of adult education programs.  In the past literacy was defined as the ability to read and write.  Today’s world demands a more expanded concept of literacy that includes the skills adults need to reach their personal, professional, and academic goals.  Helping students achieve these goals means providing them with the 21st century skills necessary for success; Future: English for Success addresses the reality of our world head on.

What skills are required for success in the 21st century?

• Digital Literacy: Understanding how to locate, access, and evaluate information effectively.
  • Civic Literacy: Understanding and participating in the community at local, state, and national levels.
  • Financial Literacy: Understanding how financial decisions impact oneself and making appropriate economic choices.
• Health Literacy: Understanding and processing basic health information to make informed choices.
• Global Literacy: Understanding the environment and different cultures to work collaboratively understanding how we impact one another.
